The ensemble is made up of 50 dedicated and passionate guitarists. The SACSS Guitar Ensemble aims to provide all of its members a rich and positive musical experience. Under the baton of our very dedicated and loving instructor, Mr Terence Matthew Choo, our guitarists practise twice a week in school.
The ensemble first participated in SYF Instrumental Ensemble Central Judging in 2001 and attained a Gold Award under the guidance of Mr Michael Gasper and Ms Karen Sin. In 2003, the ensemble attained a Silver Award in the SYF Central Judging. In 2004, Mr Frankie Shi took over as instructor and led the ensemble to a Silver Award in 2005’s SYF. In the second half of 2005, Mr Terence Choo took over as resident conductor cum instructor and has led the ensemble to a Gold with Honours Award in 2007’s SYF and a Gold Award in 2009. Mr Terence Choo has also introduced solo playing in 2006. Solo playing allows the members to perform individually, and explore more guitar techniques and skills. This has certainly set a direction for the future members of the Guitar Ensemble. The ensemble is also exposed to many performances ranging from recitals to performing at Victoria Concert Hall.
The student leaders of the Guitar Ensemble always organize an Annual Guitar Camp at the end of the year to bond the members. The camp allows more time to experiment different genres of music and to explore beyond the area of music. With the many activities and exposure, the Guitar Ensemble strives to improve the standards of playing to a higher level and to reach out to the community with their passion for music. Achievements of the ensemble can be found here as well.
